Simple Tips to Design a Bathroom

Become an equally important and necessary inclusion to a house

Bathroom's are no longer considered a neglected part of the house. Even though in a technical sense, a bathroom is 'a room where one can have a bath', it stopped being a meager house attachment long ago. Today, when designer homes are the ultimate social statement, a designer bathroom has become an equally important and necessary inclusion to a house.

The Bathroom

A traditional bathroom was a space where one would usually find a bathtub, a wash basin and a lavatory. In the modern age, the bulky and large bathroom accessories have given way to smaller, sleeker and more elegant attachments which also include convenient shower affixations. Most designer bathrooms are not complete without attractive, and sometimes over-the-top, accessories such as Jacuzzis, whirlpools etc.

Design your bathroom after undertaking a great deal of planning, research and thought. Before settling out on a particular bathroom design, you should check whether it will feasibly fit your existing bathroom size and shape. Design the renovation plan for your existing bathroom, keeping in mind the location of pipes, drainage and electrical wires. This will help you chart your renovation accordingly.

Bathroom Interior

Bathroom design selection also includes taking decisions regarding:

  • Tiles
  • Accessories
  • Lights
  • Fixtures and components

Design Steps

The following are the important steps to be taken before you decide on your favorite bathroom design:

  • Draw the layout of the bathroom separately on a piece of paper specifying the locations of the chief add-ons such as the shower cubicle, bathtub, toilet, cupboard, vanity case, mirror etc.

Make a note of the plumbing system of the bathroom which includes questions regarding the location of the vent, drainage and waste pipes as well as water supply pipes.

  • Check to see if there is sufficient illumination in the bathroom. Find out all about the electrical outlets, heating ducts and switches as you might have to relocate them according to your new design.

Bathrooms have to be designed in a way to ensure easy maintenance and sustainability. Design your bathroom to suit your comfort level, not just your lifestyle. Bathrooms should ideally comprise a cozy, warm and relaxing ambiance.

Once you complete the layout of your existing bathroom, measure the distance between the fixtures and walls. Calculate the width and height of the walls, including any existing doors and windows. If there are any unused or nonfunctional accessories, then make sure that you remove them. Bathroom design for your new bathroom has to be adjusted to the measurements taken from your existing bathroom. Design the new layout, keeping in mind the respective curricula and requirements.

Bathroom measurements have to be taken precisely in order to avoid complications. Wrong measurements may lead to faulty planning resulting in waste of time, money and energy.

Types of Styles

Design for your perfect bathroom can be chosen from various attractive and commonly used styles. Some of the most popular patterns for your bathroom may include:

Corridor Shaped

Bathroom which is designed in the form of a corridor, containing the bathtub or a shower cubicle on one side and the toilet, sink and cupboard on the other is known as corridor bathroom.

U-Shaped

Bathroom which is designed in a 'U' shape usually contains bath accessories that are spread over three walls. This design can be used only if there is ample space and a square room.

L-Shaped

Design for this kind of bathroom includes fixing the cupboard, sink and the toilet on one side of the wall and the bathtub or shower on the back wall. Bathroom with such a design has all its pipes fixed in the common wall.

One Wall Shaped

This is the most common and most economical bathroom style, as all the bathroom accessories and components are located on one side of a wall.

Bathroom remodeling or redecoration can actually have multiple advantages. Design your restroom in a way that it adds value to your property and at same time also makes users feel more comfortable and rejuvenated. Welcome a refreshing change to your home by going for a newly designed bathroom.
